Medina County High School Intern Program

The 2008 Medina County Intern Program now ready to partner students and employers.

The Intern Program has three main goals:

     •  To familiarize the local employers with the bright young talent coming out of our high schools
     •  To allow our youth the opportunities to test drive a career path
     •  Retain our local talent here in Medina County

Medina County Workforce Development, in concert with the local Medina County Schools and Chambers of Commerce, offer a high school intern program. The vision of the Medina/Summit Workforce Development would be to have all of the Medina County high schools participating in the program as we think it is a great benefit to both the high school students and the local businesses.

High quality students: benefit of matching up our area’s brightest youth with local businesses before going off to college and other opportunities. This early contact has afforded local business the chance to find some local talent for future permanent employment.

Program Created: No reinventing the wheel, the county program has the benefit to the local school of having already put together an outline, with a time line, and proposed organization plan. We also have a model network formed with the local workforce office, and chamber of commerce.

Resources: Others may benefit from a student or company that is a willing participant but unable to fulfill. Example: A student is looking for a specific field, but the school doesn’t have a match. Another participating school may have the company, but not the student, and vise versa.

Individuality: The county program will assist individual programs but allow them to individualize their program to their particular needs and conditions. It will allow all the programs to share best practices as well.

Grants: We may qualify for government grants or other funding as a result of being a county program.

Shared Expenses: We should be able to share in some expenses, such as advertising; therefore saving each school from duplicating their funds for the same outcome.

Publicity: Publicity will also be enhanced by the larger county group and should allow for some great news stories.

Please contact Bill Hanigan, Director, Medina County Workforce Development at BHanigan@MedinaCountyWorks.com or Bob Gillingham, Youth Chairman, at rgilly2@yahoo.com if you would like more infomation about the benefits of this program to your business.

We need to retain the brightest minds from our High Schools today, to fill the leadership positions of Medina County tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Robert A. Gillingham II
Youth Chairman
