"Excellent" Report Card for all Seven Public School Districts
All seven school districts in Medina County can count themselves among the best-rated in Ohio.
With the release of the Ohio Department of Education’s 2005-06 report cards, all county public schoolsdistricts were rated excellent, the best possible score for schools.
Every year, the state ranks each school district, and each school in each district, based on 25 criteria, things like standardized test scores, attendance and graduation rates. Schools earn one of five rankings from the top, excellent, to the bottom, academic emergency.
Buckeye and Cloverleaf, two districts facing a string of recent levy failures, both made strides in the rankings.
Buckeye Local Schools’ rating moved up from two years of effective rankings, and up from a continuous improvement score in the 2002-03 school year.
Cloverleaf has been ranked excellent since the 2003-04 school year. It advanced from continuous improvement in 2001-02 to effective in 2002-03.
Highland schools have the best report card record in the county. The district has been rated excellent since the 2001-02 school year.
Medina City Schools made the biggest move in the rankings, up two places from continuous improvement in the 2004-05 school year, according to data from the state. In the 2002-03 school year, the city’s school district saw its ranking fall from excellent to effective, and then to continuous improvement in 2004-05.
Black River and Brunswick schools, too, improved after an effective rating last year.
Wadsworth schools moved up from effective in 2001-02, and up again to excellent in 2002-03, a ranking it has maintained for three years.
