When a person is asked to think about work, they can only call on those images of jobs they have seen or know about. Asking people to consider careers with no basis in understanding is a leap most job seekers aren’t willing to take.

In order to combat the problem, MCEDC launched Job Opportunity Tours in 2017. These tours take job seekers into the facility where the jobs are to show them what the work looks like, the kinds of people doing the work, and give them the opportunity to picture themselves in the positions. To date, about half of the tour participants apply for positions that has resulted in over 50 placements in a year. Interested in hosting a tour? Contact bdentler@medinacounty.org today!
