The Workforce Alliance Resource Council (WAR Council) has come together to raise awareness of the manufacturing industry in an effort to shrink the workforce skills gap faced by local businesses and increase the pool of skilled workers, thus strengthening our economy and helping businesses to be more competitive. To that end, we will focus on two activities: the Manufacturing Roadshow and Made in Medina County.
The Manufacturing Roadshow is a unique endeavor undertaken in Medina County to educate high school students on the benefits of a career in manufacturing. Pre and post surveys have shown that by touring plants and having discussions about manufacturing leads students to be significantly more open to a career in manufacturing fields.
Made in Medina County is a bi-yearly event showcasing manufacturing in Medina County. Highlighting manufacturers, new technologies and support industries gives community members a unique opportunity to understand how important manufacturing is to Medina County. The first event was held in November of 2015 and saw over 700 attendees come out to talk with manufacturers including over 250 students. In addition, over 25 people were hired from the event.
